Obertilliach is well-known for being one of the most stunning localities of the Alps. Its listed historic centre measurably contributed to this achievement. The locality is a true outdoor playground and offers numerous possibilities for sports enthusiasts, including paragliding, climbing, hiking, playing at the playground, kayaking, and canyoning, as well as walking through the unspoilt nature. One of the most famous hiking path in this area is the 155 km long Karnischer Höhenweg leading past the village.
Especially in spring Obertilliach turns into a true spectacle for your eyes. Nature reawakens and colours meadows, bushes and flowers.
In winter you can have fun in the "Obertilliacher Bergbahnen" skiing area featuring cutting-edge ski lifts and 16 km of ski slopes, as well as a modern cross-country ski track which is directly connected to the 60 km long Grenzlandloipe. A sledge run, a ski school with rental service and excursions on a horse-drawn sledge complete the rich offer of Obertilliach in the Alta Pusteria.
Culture lovers should not miss a visit to the Heimatmuseum Obertilliach, a privately owned museum in the village centre. Inside the old, walled up granary visitors can discover everything on historic furnishings and tools. The pilgrimage basilica, only 10 km from Obertilliach, is dedicated to Maria Luggau and the only basilica of Kärnten. This pilgrimage site was declared "Basilica Minor" by Pope John Paul II in 1986.
