Thurn

The sunny holiday village of Thurn lies at the foot of Mount Zettersfeld in the Lienz Dolomites, only 2 km from Lienz

Altitude: 854 metres a.s.l.

The municipality of Thurn counts 640 citizens and comprises the localities of Thurn-Dorf, Oberdorf, Zauche, Prappernitze and Zettersfeld. It lies at the foot of Mount Zettersfeld, only 2 km from Lienz, the chief city of East Tyrol, and is one of the three so-called "sun villages". The other two are Gaimberg and Oberlienz. Its name "Thurn" derives from the old version of the German word "Turm“, which means tower, since the village had two castles in the past.

Particularly worth to be visited are the St. Nikolaus church in the centre of Thurn, Fatima pilgrimage church since 1943, and the St. Helena church, which can be reached on the piece trail (“Friedensweg”).

If you would like to make a motor bike or car trip, we recommend you the road from Thurn to Zettersfeld with its breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Attention: from May to November the road is subject to toll charge!
If you prefer hiking, take the trail to the "Steinermandl Panorama”, the round trail “Rundwanderweg Zettersfeld” or visit the beautiful Lake Neualpl!

In winter, Mount Zettersfeld offers perfectly groomed slopes and also the neighbouring ski region Hochstein and the many cross-country ski runs around Lienz offer a lot of sports fun!
