Thurn

The sunny holiday village of Thurn lies at the foot of Mount Zettersfeld in the Lienz Dolomites, only 2 km from Lienz

Altitude: 854 metres a.s.l.

The village of Thurn lies only 2 km from the city of Lienz, at the foot of Mt Zettersfeld, the local mountain. It is composed of the hamlets of Thurn-Dorf, Oberdorf, Zauche, Prappernitze and Zettersfeld and is home to about 640 inhabitants. Together with Gaimberg and Oberlienz it is part of the sunny villages in the surroundings of Lienz. All these villages are located at around 900 metres of altitude. Thurn owes its name to the two towers it was overlooked by in former times. In fact, "Thurn" is the old spelling of the German word "Turm" which means tower.

We highly recommend visiting the churches and chapels of the village, including the St. Nicholas church which is also a Fatima pilgrimage site. The church of St. Helena, the former administrative centre of the village, is accessible via the Friedensweg (peace path).

Passionate bikers and drivers should not miss a trip along the Thurn-Zettersfeld road offering stunning panoramic views. Please note: from May to November it turns into a toll road. The most well-known hiking paths of this area are the "Steinermandl Panorama" and the circular trail "Zettersfeld". A stunning destination are the Neualplsee lakes.

In winter Mount Zettersfeld and the Hochstein skiing area feature perfectly-prepared slopes. The surroundings of Lienz are crossed by several cross-country ski slopes.
