The earth pyramids and malga Pertinger are among the most popular hiking destinations in the surroundings of Terento
With more than 2,000 hours of sun every year, Terento, a village at 1,210 m a.s.l. is one of the sunniest municipalities along the Strada del Sole of the Val Pusteria. Its name derives from the word "torrentum" and means mountain stream. The village owes its name to its position between the two brooks Ternerbach and Winnebach. The first settlements of the area date back to the 10th century.
Terento with the numerous hamlets of Marga, Talson, Sonnenberg, Monte Neve, Ast, Pein and Pichlern is an ideal starting point for hikes in nature. From here you can undertake unforgettable hikes to the malga Astnerbergalm, to the rif. Lago di Pausa hut or a walk along the sentiero natura e cultura. Alpinists looking for more demanding tours can scale the Cima di Terento. The sports zone in the village centre includes a minigolf court, tennis courts, a football field and a riding stable.
Foodies should not miss the "s'Terner Schmelzpfandl - Terner Bauernkuchl" events dedicated to the traditional local cuisine.
In winter, beginner skiers can practise skiing on the easy slopes in the proximity of the village which are easily accessible by ski lift. Experienced skiers will find challenging slopes in the Plan the Corones skiing area. From malga Pertinger a sledge run descends to the mountain restaurant Nunewieser. The small hill in the village is suitable for children who want to try sledging. In the surroundings of the village lie numerous cross-country ski tracks.
We highly recommend a relaxing stroll along the Mühlenweg, a theme path which starts in the village centre and leads to the earth pyramids.
