Malga Fane is a marvellous place above the village of Valles
Valles, a village at 1,353 m a.s.l. at the end of the eponymous valley, is only a few minutes drive from Rio di Pusteria and a well-known holiday destination in nature. Malga Fane, one of the most stunning mountain pastures in South Tyrol, is nestled among the impressive peaks of the surrounding mountains.
In Valles, mountains, traditions and culture harmoniously intertwine. In winter, the locality turns into a winter sports area for families. Two ski lifts to the beginner slopes start right in the village centre, whereas more advanced skiers can put their skills to the test on the slopes of the Gitschberg-Jochtal skiing area. From Malga Fane start a cross-country ski track and a sledge run which can be covered also by night.
The transhumance in autumn and the pasture and milk festivals on the malga Fane in summer are the highlights of Valles. In summer, we highly recommend hikes in nature and alpine tours to the highest summits. In this season, a shuttle service to malga Fanes, an ideal starting point for walks and hikes, is available. The rif. Bressanone hut is a popular destination for families, whereas the Picco della Croce and Cima Valmala can be scaled by experienced and sure-footed alpinists.
