Huben

Huben is the southernmost locality of the municipality of Matrei and lies in the Iseltal Valley at the foot of the Hohe Tauern National Park

Altitude: 830 metres a.s.l.

The small village of Huben is the ideal destination for everybody who is looking for peace and relaxation in an unspoiled nature, far away from stress and noise. Huben is part of the municipality of Matrei, whose centre is only 7 km away and lies in the heart of the magnificent Hohe Tauern National Park with more than 150 mountain peaks higher than 3000 metres, among them the highest mountains of Austria, Mount Großglockner and Mount Großvenediger.

Huben offers a lot for active tourists: on the St. Johann im Walde cycling trail you can bike all the way to the beautiful city of Lienz. If you prefer swimming, we highly recommend you Lake Falter with its very clean water. And, of course, Huben is the ideal starting point for many beautiful hiking trips in the near Hohe Tauern National Park.
In fact, the surroundings of Huben offer a wide range of walking and hiking tours in its unspoiled nature, characterised by a species-rich fauna and many breathtaking views of the mountain panorama. Moreover, with its waterfalls and theme paths, Huben offers both exciting and instructive experiences for young and old. In winter, you can explore the ski region Großglockner Resort with more than 100 km of perfectly groomed ski slopes.

If you are interested in culture, visit the beautiful Herz Jesu church, which was built according to the plans of the famous architect Lois Welzenbacher, hosting the crucifix of Johann Patterer and other art pieces of various famous artists. Also worth to be visited is the Unterpeischlach chapel, built in memory of the flood catastrophe in 1966.
