Winter hike to the Sennes mountain hut

The Sennes mountain hut (Ütia Senes) is situated in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park above San Vigilio di Marebbe

Our winter hike runs along the classic itinerary past the alpine village of Fodara Vedla. The starting point is the Pederü hut in the Valle di Tamores (car park, bus station, end of the cross-country ski tracks) where we take path no. 7. This old military road ascends along a steep hill in switchbacks. Having arrived at the top we continue walking to the Fodara Vedla hut and its eponymous mountain village.

As the hut is closed in winter, the surrounding winter landscape seems to be even more unspoilt. The hut is embedded among the snowy Dolomite peaks. We proceed along path no. 7 (Alta Via delle Dolomiti 1) towards the Sennes mountain hut on the eponymous high plateau which delights us with a stunning view of the peaks of the Croda del Becco, Croda Rossa, Monte Cristallo and the Fanes group. The Sennes hut is open in winter and we are really looking forward to tasting a delicious lunch.

We return to the valley by following path no. 7 and then the shortcut no. 7A. The Sennes high plateau (2,000 m a.s.l.) in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park enchants its visitors also in winter.
