Lake Wildensee

In the Gschlösskamm ridge of the impressive Venediger Group, a real natural gem is located at 2,515 m a.s.l.: Lake Wildensee

Lake Wildensee is located in the High Tauern National Park in East Tyrol. The mountain lake is accessible along the Wildenkogelweg path which starts at the Matreier Tauernhaus, a hospital in former times. The Tauernhaus is the oldest hut in this area, it has already been existing since 1562. The path proceeds further to Lake Eissee (Ice Lake) and then cross-country to Lake Wildensee.

It is said, that Arctic chars are living in the lake. The peak of the above located Mt Wildenkogel offers a gorgeous panoramic view on the lake (see pic). The 3,021 m high mountain in the Venediger Group can be climbed within a relatively easy mountain hike (difficulty 1 of the UIAA grading system).
