Lake Wildensee

Lake Wildensee at 2,515 m a.s.l. is situated in the Gschlößkamm chain in the impressive Venediger group

Lake Wildensee lies in the High Tauern National Park in East Tyrol. This natural gem can be accessed during a hike starting from the Matreier Tauernhaus, a former military hospital and the most ancient hotel of the valley built in 1562. From here starts the Wildkogelweg path which after the Eissee lake proceeds through meadows and fields to the Wildensee. The water of the lake flows into the Löbbensee lake and is a natural habitat forthe Arctic char.

As you descend from the Wildenkogel, you will enjoy an amazing view of the Wildensee (in the picture). This 3,021-m high peak in the Venediger group can be easily scaled during an easy mountain tour (level 1 of the UIAA scale).
