Welcome to the charming mountain village of Untertilliach in the beautiful Lesachtal at the border between Kärnten and the Italian province of Udine. This locality is situated right between Obertilliach and the pilgrimage site of Maria Luttau and counts some hamlets extending on both valley sides. Untertilliach is characterised by mountain farms and small chapels.
Quietness, relaxation and traditions are the most important elements of the village which is also a famous starting point for several hikes in the surroundings. Mountaineerers can conquer the most impressive peaks in the vicinity such as the 2,422 m high Reiterkarspitze and the Hochspitz (2,581 m a.s.l.), the local mountain of Untertilliach. Once at the top you can admire a stunning all-round view which definitely rewards your physical efforts of the ascent along the Raabtal and the Mitterkar. The alpine pastures Kircher Almen can be reached in two hours of walking time from Untertilliach. Every year in September a festival with mountain mass is organised on this pasture.
In winter Untertilliach turns into a true paradise for cross-country ski lovers. The 60-km long cross-country ski track connects the villages of Kartitsch and Untertilliach with Maria Luggau and St. Lorenzen in Kärnten. The nearby locality of Obertilliach also features the cross-country ski centre of East Tyrol (Langlaufzentrum Osttirol). The unspoilt landscape of this area is also highly appreciated by ski mountaineerers and there are many destinations to choose from, including the Schwalbenkofel (2,159 m a.s.l.) and the Spitzköfele near Obertilliach.
