The small village of Huben is an ideal holiday destination for nature and hiking lovers. Here you can spend relaxing moments in an unspoilt nature, far away from everyday life. The administrative centre of the municipality of Matrei is only 7 km from Huben and lies in the Hohe Tauern nature park which is surrounded by more than 150 peaks above 3,000 m including the Großglockner and the Großvenediger, the highest summits of Austria.
The St. Johann im Walde cycle path leading to Lienz is particularly suitable for families. If you prefer swimming to cycling you can dive into the Badeteich Falter, a natural, freely accessible lake which is highly appreciated for its excellent water quality.
Thanks to its proximity to the Hohe Tauern nature park, Huben is famous for its hiking paths and passionate hikers are amazed by its fauna rich in species, unspoilt nature and the stunning view of its surroundings. Other attractions worth mentioning in this area are waterfalls, educational paths and unforgettable experiences in nature. Skiers can have fun on the more than 100 km of ski slopes of the Großglockner Resort.
The Herz-Jesu church was built according to the plan of architect Lois Welzenbacher and is worth a visit. The most important elements of this sacred building are the crucifix by Master Johann Patterer and the figures of saints by different artists. We also recommend visiting the Unterpeischlach chapel from 1966 which was built in memory of the terrible flood this area was hit by in the same year.
