We drive to the hiker car park Valle d'Altafossa, the starting point of today's winter hike. Then we take path no. 15 which enters the valley in a slight ascent. This large path is levelled and therefore perfect for winter hikes. At the second fork we keep right instead of proceeding directly to the Großberghütte hut. Having arrived at the end of the Valle d'Altafossa, the path no. 15 leaves the forest and continues on the alpine meadows.

After having crossed the bridge above the Altfassbach stream, the circular trail continues southwards. We descend along a slope with a minimum drop in the snowy valley with its characteristic wooden huts until we reach the Großberghütte hut. After our lunch break we retrace our steps back to the starting point. There is also a shorter path leading from the hut directly to the car park (30 minutes of walking time instead of the 90 minutes of the other path). However, we chose the longer path as the natural landscape in this area is so fascinating that we wanted to enjoy it for another while.
