The area around Prato Piazza offers marvellous natural landscapes all year round

in the heart of the Dolomites winter flaunts its stunning beauty. The starting point of this winter hike is Carbonin, a hamlet at 1,460 m a.s.l. in the Val di Landro which is accessible also by bus from Dobbiaco. The hiking path no. 37 branches off to the right along a hill and runs steadily uphill in several hairpin bends. The view of Monte Cristallo and the Croda Rossa is truly fascinating.
After about 40 minutes of walking the path becomes flatter and the forest slowly thins out. Soon we arrive at the rifugio Vallandro (Dürrensteinhütte) at 2,030 m a.s.l. where we stop for a well-deserved lunch. With the beautiful cross-country ski slope in sight we continue towards north until the Plätzwiese mountain restaurant where our descent to Braies starts.
At the car park of the restaurant Gasthaus Brückele lies the bus stop of the bus back to Dobbiaco via the Pragser Säge. The unique magic of the snowy meadows and the enchanting Dolomites make this rather long winter hike an unforgettable experience.
