Fundres

Fundres is located at the head of the Val di Fundres and is ideal for a walk in the Monti di Fundres mountains

The Val di Fundres branches off from Vandoies in the Val Pusteria. If you drive towards the head of the valley, the Monti di Fundres are the eye-catcher number one. Fundres is located at the head of the valley. The parish church rises on a hill at the entrance of the village. Fundres was first mentioned in the 11th century, when a bronze dagger was found. Characteristic for the valley is its natural landscape and the original farms, which are cultivated by locals. Also due to the refreshing climate, Fundres has become a popular holiday resort.

Attraction number number one are the Monti di Fundres, which belong to the Zillertal Alps, surrounding the village. Those who love hiking are spoiled for choice, as there is much to discover and see. Particularly recommendable are e.g. a walk to the Lago Ponte di Ghiaccio and the Rif. Ponte di Giaccio. Experienced hikers can head for the glacier of the Punta Bianca. Another tip for a walk of more days is the Alta Via di Fundres, a tour of 4 to 6 days stretching from Vipiteno to Falzes, snaking across the heart of the Monti di Fundres mountains.

Also fascinating is the Farm Trail (Sentiero dei Masi), a round trail that takes visitors from one farm to the other, presenting a series of arts and crafts of ancient times, such as the coopering or baking of bread. In winter, the skiing areas of Gitschberg and Jochtal are within easy reach. By the way: Fundres and the Passo di Fundres are also part of the route if you decide to cross the Alps by mountain bike. Only for the daring ones!
