Fundres

Fundres, a wonderful village immersed in the stunning nature of the eponymous nature, is an ideal starting point for hikes in the Fundres mountains

The Val di Fundres is a side valley of the Val Pusteria. From the centre of the valley you can admire the impressive Fundres mountains which border the valley in the north. The village of Fundres was first mentioned in the 11th century when a bronze dagger was found at the so-called "Eisbrugglöcher". The parish church stands on a hill at the entrance of the village, which, together with the hamlet of Dan, lies at the end of the valley. The Val di Fundres is heavily characterised by local traditions and an unequalled natural landscape. Thanks to its fresh climate, Fundres is a sought-after holiday destination in summer.

The Fundres mountains, a subgroup of the Zillertal Alps surrounding the village, feature several paths for hikers of all levels. We highly recommend an alpine tour to the lago Ponte di Ghiaccio and the eponymous mountain hut. Experienced alpinists can undertake challenging tours to the Punta Bianca. The Alta Via di Fundres, a high-altitude path from Vipiteno to Falzes, runs across the magnificent nature of the Fundres mountains and can be completed in 4-6 days.

During a relaxing walk along the Höfeweg in Fundres you will discover the traditional, still managed farms, where wooden barrels and felt items are produced and the scent of fresh-baked bread fills the air. In winter, passionate skiers can have fun on the well-prepared slopes of the Gitschberg-Jochtal skiing area in the surroundings.

The very challenging MTB tour on the passo di Fundres offers stunningly beautiful views.
