Ski tour to Mt Guardia Alta Orientale

This is a demanding ski tour in the Fundres Mountains facing Mt Gran Pilastro

Starting point of our spring ski tour (starting very early is absolutely necessary!) is the bridge before the Luzer farm (1,550 m a.s.l.), at the head of the Fundres valley. We take the forest path towards northeast to the Egger Bödenalm mountain hut. Across a steep slope we climb up and make a crossing to the right to a hay hut (1,910 m). East bound we cross a rift, manage a short steep section with kick turns again and finally arrive at the flatter valley bottom of the Ponte di Ghiaccio mountain pasture, on the right bank of the stream we walk into the valley floor.

Already before we reach the Ponte di Ghiaccio mountain pasture (2,154 m) we walk up the slope at the left, towards the Valsscharte saddle. After a short flatter section we climb up a scarp to the saddle at 2,510 m. From here the Ponte di Ghiaccio mountain hut can be seen. We carry on, through a hollow to the next saddle, where the Obervalskar coomb is in front of us.

Also the peak is visible from here, but still quite far away. We cross the coomb towards the eastern flank of Mt Guardia Alta Occidentale, then up to the western ridge of Mt Guardia Alta Orientale and further across the ridge to the summit at 3,068 m (with or without skis, according to snow situation). The downhill run takes place along the ascent route.

Please note: gorgeous ski tour with view on Mt Gran Pilastro mountain, but only suited for experts. Good technique required. Early start and secure conditions obligatory!
