The municipality of Chienes with its 2,650 inhabitants includes the main village of Chienes and the hamlets of Casteldarne, S. Sigismondo, Corti and the Monghezzo high plateau with its scattered farms. The main village along the road of the Val Pusteria is crossed by the Rienza river. Thanks to the train stations of S. Sigismondo and Casteldarne, Chienes is perfectly connected to the Val Pusteria railway line.
The castle of Casteldarne with its Baroque architecture and highly interesting, lavish furniture are definitely worth a visit. We also recommend walking to the milestone of Casteldarne. Wonderful hiking destinations in the surroundings are Malga Moarhofalm and the Cima di Pozzo. Other attractions not to miss are the mountain pine oil distillery "Bergila" with its herb garden, as well as the Gatscher show diary. Spend an afternoon at the lake of Issengo or ride along the cycle path of the Val Pusteria. Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy skiing on the slopes of the Plan de Corones skiing area and unforgettable winter hikes in the Val Pusteria.
