Casteldarne lies at 805 m a.s.l. and has about 960 inhabitants. The main attraction of the village is the impressive Casteldarne castle which was built between the 17th and 18th century and served as a permanent residence for the Künigl Counts. The castle is composed of the most ancient part in the south, which has been preserved in its original form to this day, and the Baroque eastern part. The parish church on the castle hill is well-known for housing the miraculous image of the Corn Mother and for its chapel.
The walled-in milestone east of Casteldarne was found in 1928 in a rock wall. We highly recommend undertaking a walk to the milestone of the Roman emperors Septimus, Severus, Caracalla and Geta. Other excursions you should not miss lead along the sentiero dei Romani and the Sentiero Keinberg paths. The Kienberg and Montal are other famous hiking destinations you shouldn't miss.
In winter the Plan de Corones skiing area is easily accessible from Casteldarne.
