Ski tour to the Giogo di Selva

We start at the car park of the sledge run of Rio Bianco (1,350 m a.s.l.) about 1.5 km west of the village. The initial section runs across a field and then along a sledge run for about 20 minutes. After some bends we reach a fork where we leave the sledge run and branch off left following the signposts "Mitterberger Alm" and "Speikboden".

After another 10 minutes of walking we reach a brook bed. The path winds along the right riverbank before proceeding towards malga Mitterberger on the left side. Until this point the path runs along a slight and pleasant slope. Soon after reaching the malghe Mitterberger Almen at 1,978 m a.s.l. the forest opens up and the ascent gets steeper. We stop for a short break on the high plateau of these malghe where we enjoy a stunning view of the Sasso Nero and Corni di Ghega mountains on the opposite valley side. The uphill section now flattens a little.

Our final destination is already visible and after several hairpin bends we eventually arrive at Giogo di Selva (2,342 m a.s.l.) after two hours of walking. From here we can admire an impressive view of the surrounding mountains. For our return we retrace our steps and the large clearings above the malghe Mitterberger are ideal for beautiful ski adventures. The terrain is not particularly steep and this is why it is suitable even for beginner skiers and snowshoe hikers.

Please note: this easy hike is suitable also for beginner skiers. The tour can be extended from Giogo di Selva on where you can continue walking along the Western crest of Monte Seewassernock (2,516 m a.s.l.) and continue up to Monte Spico (2,517 m a.s.l., Speikboden). From here you can enjoy a marvellous view of the eponymous skiing area.
