Already in the depths of history, Riva di Tures used to be a popular holidays destination, not at least due to its impressive location at 1,600 m a.s.l. at the foot of the mighty Collalto.

The high alpine village stretches in the Valle di Riva in the heart of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina nature park. Local mountain and at the same time the highest mountain of the Vedrette di Ries is the 3,436 m high Collalto, a mountain that can only be scaled by experienced mountaineers. By the way, 32 of the 84 mountains of three thousand metres are located in the Valle di Riva.

Riva di Tures is an outdoor gym for those who love active holidays. The cross-country ski centre of Riva di Tures provides ideal conditions for this sport, offering 15 km of classical and skating trails. Moreover in the village there are two ski lifts, while the Speikboden skiing area is only 12 km away. However, the village is also starting point for several hikes and mountain tours: popular destinations are the Malga dei Dossi, the Rif. Roma or the Rif. Vedrette di Ries. An alternative is the Arthur-Hartdegen path, stretching at the foot of the Collalto. Those who love mountain biking might be familiar with Riva di Tures due to the Giro delle Vedrette tour, which is a cycling tour of 100 km, leading to Austria.

The event for which Riva di Tures is also famous is the return of the cattle, called "Kiekemma“. This is when farmers take their sheep and cows back in the stables from the alpine pastures, where they spent summer months. On this occasion, there is a huge festival and celebration in the village.
By the way: did you know that close to the Monte Covoni above Riva di Tures, there is the highest-located Swiss pine stand of the Eastern Alps?
