Plata is located at 1,400 m a.s.l. and is a mainly agrarian-oriented place. Noticeable are above all the ancient farms in the village. Also, Plata has got a remarkable natural monument to offer, which are the earth pyramids, emerged several hundred years ago subsequent to a landslide. In this period there was a carriage path between the Thalerhof farmstead and the hamlet of Sopranessano, which was also interrupted by a landslide. Today the earth pillars of Plata are a particularly famous destination.
The earth pillars can be reached from Plata in a pleasant walk of about 30 minutes. Please use the respective parking spaces, as there are no spaces directly at the natural monument. Our tip: scaling the Montone, the local mountain of Perca, starting from the hiker's parking space in Plata. On the way back, we recommend you a stop at the Gönner Alm.
