A demanding ski tour in the Fundres mountains with a view of the Gran Pilastro

It is critical to start early in the morning if you want to undertake this spring hike. We drive to the end of the valle di Fundres where we park near the bridge before maso Luzer (1,550 m a.s.l.) and ascend a steep slope (avalanche cone). We turn right towards a small hay barn at 1,910 m a.s.l. Then we proceed towards east and cross a gorge followed by numerous hairpin bends. The terrain flattens near Malga Ponte di Ghiaccio (Eisbruggalm, 2,154 m a.s.l.) where we continue along the right bank of the brook towards the valley floor.
Before malga Ponte di Ghiaccio at 2,154 m a.s.l. we walk along the slope left of the pass called "Valsscharte" and arrive at a small pass. After a short, flatter section we climb up the hairpin bends of a steep slope until the Valsscharte (2,510 m a.s.l.). From here we can see the mountain hut in the distance. We continue through the basing before arriving at the next pass where the Obervalskar coomb expands in front of us. The peak is visible from far. Subsequently we cross the pass along the eastern side of the Guardia Alta Occidentale and walk along the ridge to the peak (3,068 m a.s.l., with or without skis, depending on the snow conditions).
You can descend along the same path or if the conditions are safe enough towards the Weissenbachtal valley. After the steep slope on the right side of the pass we leave the Valsscharte behind us and cross the gorge towards the Valsalm. Attention! This technically very difficult variant should be done only in case of sufficient snow and if the conditions are safe enough!
Please note: this fantastic ski hike in the Zillertal Alps delight everyone with a stunning view of Gran Pilastro and other mountains but is suitable only for technically prepared and fit skiers. Good technique is required both for the ascents and descents. It is essential to undertake this excursion early in the morning.
