It’s thanks to the local history association “Medaria” that an interesting exhibition tells about life and work in this part of East Tyrol. In the Local Museum Matrei in Osttirol not only excavation finds but also numerous objects of everyday life during the last centuries can be admired.
Back then life was hard and meagre and piety was important. The devotional objects, flags and masks in the museum tell about the deep belief of the people. Two particularities of the museum “Medaria” are the last brown bear of Tyrol, which was shot in the wild in 1971, and the large collection of minerals with a 350 kg heavy berg crystal. Really worth seeing! The museum is accessible via the entrance of the town hall.
