The local history association "Medaria" set up a wonderful exhibition which provides interesting insights of everyday life and work of this area of East Tyrol. The Heimatmuseum Matrei in Osttirol showcases remains brought to light during archaeological excavations in the surroundings, as well as numerous objects of everyday life from the previous centuries.
In the past life was hard and simple and this is why people were so religious as shown by the religious items, flags and masks displayed in the Heimatmuseum "Medaria" in Matrei in East Tyrol. The main attractions of the museum, however, are the last brown bear living in nature which was killed in 1971, as well as the rich mineral collection which includes a 350 kg heavy mountain crystal. The museum is accessible via the entrance of the townhall of Matrei in East Tyrol.
