The starting point of our ski tour in the Fundres Mountains is the Bärental Farm in Plata which is accessible from Falzes by a 5.5 km long mountain road (parking spaces are available on the roadside and near a bridge). At the beginning of a meadow we take a forest path. We recommend ignoring all the branches to the right, however, in some parts you can shortcut the forest path. After a pleasant uphill section (400 m of elevation gain) we reach malga Bärental at 1,847 m of altitude. We cross a larch forest and turn right towards malga Bärentaler Oberhütte (2,028 m a.s.l.) where we need to tackle a steeper section than the previous one.
As we leave the forest behind us, we have a fantastic view of the Val Pusteria below us, the Plan de Corones on the opposite valley side and the Dolomites in the background. We ascend some rock steps until we arrive at the left face of the mountain. Then we climb up to the highest spot by walking along the western ridge.
Additional information: this easy hike delights us with an all-round view of the Dolomites. As the upper part of the terrain is very large you can choose from various options for the descent, which can also be carried out along the forest road.
