Archaeological Educational Trail of San Lorenzo

The Archaeological Educational Trail takes hikers back to the Roman age and to various places of discovery in the former Roman road station Mansio Sebatum

Today we make a journey to Castelbadia near San Lorenzo di Sebato, where in the centre of the village, near the eponymous castle, we park our car (possibility of parking also along the Peintner bridge close to the main road). San Lorenzo di Sebato once used to be a significant Roman road station, called Mansio Sebatum. Numerous findings of those days have been made on the Sonnenburger Kopf hill. Today a nice educational trail leads to this hill and provides an insight into several millenniums of settlement history of this archaeologically highly interesting area.

Starting from Badia Castle, we walk up the asphalted road towards Campolino and Fassina. After a curve to the left we discover the first information panel, explaining the course of the educational trail. Due to a steep section in the course of the route, we decide to walk it in counter direction, from east to west.

Along a marked path, interested hikers can discover the cup-marked stones of Badia, have a look at the hill-forts of this area and the ruins of Sebatum, and discover much more historically notable facts, explained on 11 panels along the road. Moreover the path takes to a resting area that is ideal for a stop and provides a great view. There are many possibilities to play for kids in the forest.
