Cima Palombino

The path up to the 2,589-m high Cima Palombino in the Carnic Alps starts at Lake Klapfsee in East Tyrol

The Cima Palombino (Porze in German) is a border mountain in the Carnic Main Crest. The 2,589-m high peak at the border between East Tyrol and the Italian province of Belluno, looks back on an eventful past. Just like many other summits, it hosts some interesting remains of the Great War.

The Cima Palombino and the Rif. Porzehütte mountain hut are popular hiking destinations in summer. Lake Klapfsee is accessible from Obertilliach via the Tilliacher Tal. The hiking path to the Porzehütte (1,942 m a.s.l.), which is open in summer, starts at Lake Klapfsee and can be completed in one hour.

On the eastern and the western side of the mountain runs a via ferrata which takes you from the Porzehütte along the high-altitude path 'Karnischer Höhenweg' to the peak in one hour. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the Grossglockner, the Grossvenediger, the Sesto Dolomites and the Carnic Alps.
