The history of Predoi, the administrative centre of the eponymous municipality, is tightly linked to mining

Predoi is an ideal destination for those who would like to spend relaxing holidays in the almost unspoilt nature of the Valle Aurina. In the mine of Predoi copper was extracted already in Prehistoric times. In 1893 the mine was closed and the farmers of Predoi moved to Vienna where they learned bobbin lacemaking, a difficult but fascinating embroidery technique. This fascinating handicraft was handed down to the future generations in the bobbin lacemaking school in Predoi and is still practised today, just like wooden mask carving.
We highly recommend a visit to the mining museum near Rio Rosso. The St. Ignaz gallery is open to the public and can be visited thanks to a train which brings visitors into the gallery. Here, they can discover interesting facts on the lives of the miners.
People suffering from respiratory difficulties can attend therapeutic sessions in the climate centre of Predoi which was set up in a former mine.
Tip: participate in bobbin lacemaking lessons in Predoi.
