The municipality of Valdaora in the central part of the Val Pusteria is embedded between the peaks of the Plan de Corones, the Piz da Peres and the Punta Tre Dita
The municipality of Valdaora includes the hamlets of Valdaora di Sopra, Valdaora di Mezzo, Valdaora di Sotto and Sorafurcia and has 2,500 inhabitants. The municipal territory between Brunico and Monguelfo is directly connected to the railway network and the cycle path of the Val Pusteria and extends from an altitude of 981 metres to 2,567 m a.s.l. Thanks to its proximity to the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park and the Dolomites, the village boasts an extensive network of hiking paths, among others, to the Piz da Peres and the Cima Tre Dita. The Passo Furcia was covered by the cyclists of the Giro d'Italia on different occasions.
The municipality is complete with several spots where you can practise different sports, including a Nordic Walking Park, open mountain huts, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a golf course and a riding stable. We highly recommend an excursion to the spring of Bad Bergfall which was discovered by the Romans.
The Plan de Corones is the centre of winter sports of the area. The valley station of this popular skiing area is situated in Valdaora where you can have fun on the sledge runs, which were, among others, the scene of the FIL World Luge Championships. The village also offers a 10-km long cross-country ski track running along the basin of Valdaora. Markus Lanz, one of the most famous celebrities of South Tyrol, was born here.
