San Vigilio di Marebbe

The world-class skiers Manuela and Manfred Moelgg were born in San Vigilio di Marebbe, the main village of the municipality

San Vigilio, the administrative centre of the municipality of San Vigilio di Marebbe, has 1,280 inhabitants. The locality is situated in a quiet, low-trafficked area at 1,285 m a.s.l. Agriculture and handicraft still play a central role for this village characterised by small wooden houses, historical buildings and the Ladin language, which is still spoken here. In the centre of San Vigilio rises a bronze statue of Katharina Lanz armed with a pitchfork. This brave woman, who was born right here, defended her village against Napoleon's troops. The main attraction of San Vigilio is the Baroque parish church in the village centre.

Nature lovers should definitely not miss San Vigilio ("Al Plan de Mareo" in Ladin) embedded in the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park with the eponymous visitor's centre. The area is a true paradise for both hikers and mountain bikers who can have fun on 250 km of trails. Furthermore, the village is crossed during the Transalp Challenge, a famous cycling competition.

Winter sports lovers will find stunning cross-country ski tracks, mountaineer skiing itineraries to the Cima delle Dieci and sledge runs at malga Fanes. Guided hiking and snowshoe hiking tours, as well as many other activities are available as well.
