Whether it is practised as a sport or as a leisure activity, fishing is always a relaxing hobby. The Val Pusteria features a wide range of alpine lakes and streams where anglers can spend wonderful days in nature.
Most water courses of South Tyrol are coldwater streams and lakes. The mountain brooks are populated by the river trout, whereas the Isarco and the Rienza rivers are a natural habitat for the marble trout. Unfortunately, the number of marble trout is rapidly decreasing due to the introduction of other fish species. Sometimes you can also find brown trouts and Arctic chars.
Please observe the local fishing regulations. Holidaymakers need a fishing licence if they want to fish in the waters of the Val Pusteria. Fishing licences are available in all tourism offices where you can find out when and where you are allowed to fish.
