A long but easy hike leads us from the Taurerwirt through the Daberklamm gorge to the Tauernhaus hut in the Dorfertal valley. From there we walk up to the enchanting Dorfersee lake on the Alpine Divide

We start our hike at the Taurerwirt restaurant near Burg, a hamlet of the municipality of Kals am Grossglockner, where we take path no. 711, a large, unpaved path leading through the Daberklamm (or Dabaklamm gorge). To our left, a steep path ascends along the slope, the "Daberklamm-Weg". Here you can admire this impressive gorge with its swishing Kalserbach waterfall close up. We recommend wearing a helmet because of the frequent water squirts you are exposed to.
We walk past the Moaeben, Schöneben, Rumesoi-Eben and Bergeralm and walk uphill towards our first destination, the Kalser Tauernhaus hut (1,755 m a.s.l.) where we stop for a break and enjoy the spectacular view of the Grossglockner glaciers, also known as "the king of the Eastern Alps". Those who would like to lengthen their hike by walking along the path leading up to the Kalser Tauern pass and to Lago Dorfner, a wonderful alpine lake at 1,950 m a.s.l. in the heart of the Hohe Tauern national park. We return on the same path.
