Montevila is home to about 50 inhabitants and stretches on a sunny slope on the eastern valley side. The village is situated right at the entrance to the Val di Vila in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina nature park.
The first settlements of this hamlet date back to many centuries ago. The most ancient settlement found in the municipality is known as "Locus Welinberc". The small church of Montevila was built in the 11th century but only its walls have survived to this day. Until the 1970s Montevila consisted of only some farms, whereas in the last decades also new buildings have been added to the village, including a herb farm.
During the summer months we recommend undertaking a hike to rifugio Gönner. Starting from the car park below the Höllerhof farm in Vila di Sopra, it takes you about 1.5 hours to reach the mountain hut.
