S. Martino in Casies

San Martino is a quiet village embedded in the wonderful nature of the Val Casies

San Martino Valbassa, San Martino Vallalta and Planca di Sopra are only some of the villages of the Val Casies. The village of San Martino lies at an altitude of 1,276 m a.s.l. and has about 290 inhabitants. The San Martino parish church was originally built in Gothic style and rebuilt in Baroque style in 1777 and is particularly worth visiting.

Another notable monument is the bronze monument dedicated to Father J. Haspinger. Father Haspinger is presumably the most famous citizen of the valley and is particularly known for having played a key role in the victory over the French and Bavarian armies during the Tyrolean Rebellion at Bergisel in 1809.

The village of San Martino is a perfect holiday destination for those who would like to relax in nature and breathe in the fresh mountain air. The landscape is heavily characterised by agriculture. The most popular hikes in the surroundings are the Talblickweg, a panoramic path, as well as unforgettable hikes to the malghe of Casies, to malga Steger or malga Friedberg. In winter you can have fun on the slopes of S. Maddalena or undertake a fantastic winter hike to the snow-covered malghe in the surroundings, which are open also during the cold season.
