The village of S. Giorgio opposite the Plan de Corones near Brunico is connected to the Valle Aurina cycle track
San Giorgio, one of the most ancient settlements in the Val Pusteria, lies on the bank of the Rio Aurina. The remains of the prehistoric fortresses on the slopes overlooking the village vouch for the locality's century-long history. Before becoming part of the municipality of Brunico in 1928, S. Giorgio was an independent municipality. Today it is home to approximately 2,000 inhabitants.
The city of Brunico is only 1 km from S. Giorgio, which is why it can easily be reached on the cycle path. The rustic village at the entrance to the valle di Tures is characterised by bars and refreshment points. S. Giorgio is particularly suitable for those who would like to undertake walks in the surroundings of the hamlet. A very well-known MTB itinerary runs along a low-trafficked road connecting Grimaldo to Falzes.
If you prefer practising nordic walking you can do so by starting directly from S. Giorgio. The village also features the "Nature Fitness Park Kronplatz Dolomiti" where you can find several routes of various difficulty levels.
In winter, skiers can benefit from a free shuttle service which takes them directly to the valley station of the lift facilities of the Plan de Corones skiing area. Have fun in the snow!
