Lake Dobbiaco circular hike

A comfortable walking tour leads us around the emerald Lake Dobbiaco along an interesting nature trail

Starting point of our walking tour is the parking space at Lake Dobbiaco (chargeable), at the entrance of the Val di Landro. From afar the mighty cliffs at the end of the valley are visible while the soft green of Lake Dobbiaco winks at us through the forest. In the year 2000 a nature trail with 11 stations was arranged around the lake and info panels tell interesting details about the flora and fauna of the region, quasi a teaching location amidst nature.

We walk anticlockwise past the rest stops to a little pebble beach, a beautiful place to pause and a gorgeous spot for the kids to play. Always along well-walkable paths, also suited for buggies, we continue our walk. Soon we reach a panoramic platform above the lake, an ideal place to watch the waterbirds, like wild ducks and dabchicks who are native birds of this area. In spring and autumn rare migrating birds can be watched here.

We continue our walk through one of the few remaining wetlands of South Tyrol. Here the nature trail proceeds along wooden bridges and paths slightly away from the lake. At the next station we try the long jump compared with several wild animals. Now the path comes closer again to the lake and straight along the bank of the lake we come back to our starting point. A gorgeous excursion destination especially for families!
