Mountain tour from Lake Braies to Passo Furcia

Lake Braies, the jewel of the Dolomites, is starting point of our hike through the Valle Foresta valley and to the Passo Furcia.

At Lake Braies we walk past the forestry station and the chapel towards south. On the southwest bank, the path no. 19 into the Valle Foresta valley branches off. It proceeds slightly uphill to the Foresta Mountain Hut (rest point) and still a bit further to the little hunting lodge.

Here the actual ascent starts: On a forest path we hike in serpentines up to the high alp. The high alp chalets are a beautiful ensemble in a hollow between the mountain peaks. The largest hut, the Ucia Fojedöra, is also a rest point. After a break we continue our ascent, across the green alpine meadows to the Lapedur Ridge (2,210 m a.s.l.). Quite suddenly the path proceeds steeply downhill along the cliffs of the Langtal valley. The Olanger Jägerhütte, a small wooden lodge, is the first building which we reach on our descent.

Now we have two possibilities: either to descend to Valdaora (Olang) via Bagni Pervalle or to continue the hike to the Passo Furcia mountain pass. We choose the second possibility and walk through the forest towards west. On the map the path seemed to be quite flat, but in reality it is a very narrow trail which constantly runs up and down. Finally the trail joins a wider path which leads us to the Passo Furcia (Furkelpass, 1,789 m a.s.l.). The public bus takes us down to San Vigilio in the Val Pusteria valley again.
