This hike from the Pederü hut in the valle di Tamores to the Fanes and Lavarella huts leads through the fascinating landscape of the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park

The fascinating Fanes area at 2,000 m a.s.l. inspired numerous stories and legends dating back to the Prehistory, including the legends on the Dolomites by Karl Felix Wolff. The bus to the mountain restaurant Pederü, our starting point, starts from San Vigilio di Marebbe. Initially, the path steeply ascends near a debris cone before crossing a valley basin with pine trees. On the eastern side we recognise the Piciodel lake and soon we reach the extensive meadows of malga Munt de Pices Fanes.
We proceed slightly uphill until the next fork where we follow the signposts "Lavarellhütte" (rifugio Lavarella). The Rio di San Vigilio flows quietly to the valley head where it forms a small lake in the proximity of the rifugio Lavarella at 2,042 m a.s.l. The "Marmot Parliament" extends to our right. This natural attraction composed of several rock layers, invites for a stop to hear the marmots' whistles or, if you are lucky enough, even see them.
At the rifugio Lavarella we take a narrow path below lago Grünsee which continues towards the rifugio Fanes from where we climb up to passo Limo. On the top of the pass we admire the stunning lago Lima whose water sparkles in wonderful shades of yellow and green. If you want you can extend this hike to the peak of the Col Becei or the malga Großfanes, which is accessible from the pass. However, after a break, we decide to return to our starting point by retracing our steps.
