During this stunning hike in Val Pusteria we get the chance to admire the fascinating earth pyramids of Plata. We will stop for a break at malga Gönneralm, one of the most popular mountain huts of South Tyrol

The mountain hamlet of Plata is situated on the sunny side of the Vedrette di Ries group above
Perca. The hiking car park P3 right before the village of Plata is accessible by car by driving along a mountain road or by bus. At the car park we follow the signpost "Erdpyramiden" towards Plata and walk past the restaurant Schönblick. There we ascend a path running across the meadows which leads to the earth pyramids. Because of the bad light conditions we decide to hike to the Gönneralm first and to visit the earth pyramids on our return.
First we take path no. 16A and then path no. 6. Those who are looking for a less demanding alternative can take the forest road to malga Gönneralm - an asphalt road which turns into a gravel road at the high farms of Plata. At the hut we enjoy the impressive panoramic view ranging from the Dolomites to the Ortles group and the Alpine divide. In 2017 this malga offering typical local dishes, was elected most popular malga of South Tyrol.
Now we can finally visit the earth pyramids. At the bend of the forest road near the high farms of Plata we take a path and follow it for some hundred metres. We admire the fascinating earth pyramids of Plata which are probably the most important ones of South Tyrol. The "Pyramidenweg" is characterised by some panoramic viewpoints from where you can see them very well.
