Today we undertake a wonderful spring hike along the Butterfly Path which runs along the sunny slope of S. Sigismondo near Chienes
Image gallery: Butterfly Path of San Sigismondo
At the church of San Sigismondo we take the road towards east which runs uphill along a forest hill. We tackle several hairpin bends until we arrive at some farms immersed in blooming meadows which are a true paradise for many different species of butterflies, including chalk-blue, painted lady, tortoiseshell, admiral, cabbage white, brimstone and skipper.
We ascend and soon we leave the asphalt road behind us and continue towards west at an altitude of 1,200 m. We then walk past the Gugge farms where we descend along a forest path taking us to the Schifferegger farm inn. From here it is only a 20-minute walk to S. Sigismondo.
