The 2,962-m high Weisse Spitze in East Tyrol is the highest summit of the Villgraten Mountains, also known as Deferegg Alps. The Rote Spitze, which is located right near it, is only 6 metres lower than the Weisse Spitze. Interestingly, the two peaks are accessible via two different hiking paths.
The Rote Spitze is easily accessible in a 4.5-hour hike from Malga Bruggeralm in the Villgratental. Locals tend to confuse the two mountains. However, a geographic map will clarify any doubts. From the peak you can enjoy an impressive view of the other peaks of the High Tauern, as well as of Mt Grossglockner and Mt Grossvenediger.
