Granatspitze

Mount Granatspitze (3,086 m a.s.l.) is part of the eponymous mountain group

The Granatspitz mountain range at the border between East Tyrol and Salzburg belongs to the High Tauern and the eponymous nature park. The Granatspitz group owes its name to the Granatspitze although the 3,086-m high peak is not even the highest one of the group.

The path leading up to the peak passes the Rudolfshütte hut in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Since the hut already stands at 2,135 metres of altitude, the remaining part of the itinerary is not as long and technical as you may expect it to be. It includes vie ferrate and glacier traverses.

In winter a ski tour takes you up to the slightly higher Stubacher Sonnblick (3,232 m a.s.l.) and to the Granatspitze. In some sections the slopes are very steep, however, your efforts will be rewarded by an impressive view ranging from the Grossglockner in the east to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Grossvenediger in the west.
