The Picco di Vallandro (2,839 m a.s.l.) is located in the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park between the Valle di Braies and the Val di Landro. The mountain is a popular destination and can be reached from Prato Piazza, a high plateau at about 2,000 m a.s.l. from where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Braies Dolomites.
The path starts from Prato Piazza and leads past the Vallandro Mountain Hut at 2,040 m a.s.l. The summit of the mountain can be scaled in two hours. From the peak you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Sesto Dolomites, the Cristallo Group, the Fanes Group and other Dolomite peaks.
Picco Vallandro is often chosen as a hiking destination for sunrise hikes. In winter it attracts ski mountaineerers and snowshoe hikers who usually start from Prato Piazza or from Braies. The nearby peaks Crepe di Val Chiara (Helltaler Schlechten) are popular snowshoe hiking destinations as well.
