Villabassa (1,154 m a.s.l.) is a mountain village and well-known tourist centre since 1871. It looks back on a century-long history and features the Casa Wassermann museum which is dedicated to the evolution of tourism in the Alta Pusteria.
Culture lovers should definitely not miss the St. Stephan parish church with its wonderful altarpiece by the famous Baroque painter Martin Stoller. We also recommend visiting the St. Magdalena church where you can admire one of the most precious organs of Europe. Its historical and musical value is inestimable.
Villabassa is a sought-after destination for nature lovers. The village was the first Italian locality to set up a Kneipp-Erlebnisdorf, that is, a place where you can try the Kneipp approach. This area also includes some tennis courts, a bocce court, a recreational area and an "Adventureland" for children. By walking along a botanical path you can discover interesting facts on the local fauna and flora.
The extended network of hiking paths is a true highlight for hikers. The most sought-after destinations are Monte Serla and the Alta Via delle Dolomiti (no. 3) to Longarone. Every year Villabassa hosts the famous Dolomiti Superbike MTB race. Cyclists can undertake wonderful excursions along the PusterBike cycle path running across the entire valley.
Its proximity to the Monte Baranci, Monte Elmo, Croda Rossa, Plan de Corones and Braies skiing areas makes this locality a wonderful holiday village for winter sports enthusiasts. Those who prefer to practise winter sports other than alpine skiing will definitely appreciate the extensive network of winter hiking paths, snowshoe itineraries and skimo routes. During your excursions in nature you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
