The village of San Giuseppe is situated at the entrance of the beautiful Val Fiscalina, one of the most stunning valleys of the Three Peaks nature park
The village of San Giuseppe at 1,339 m a.s.l. is only two kilometres from the main village of the municipality. Its position at the entrance to the Val Fiscalina makes it an ideal starting point for hikes to the famous Three Peaks Lavaredo. During the First World War it was the scene of several horrible battles between the Austro-Hungarian army and the alpini, the mountain troops of the Italian Army. The Val Fiscalina, one of the most stunning valleys in the Three Peaks Nature Park is crossed by the Rio Fiscalina.
At the end of the valley you can find different restaurants and mountain huts including the rifugi Fondo Valle and Locatelli. From June to October and from November to February the valley is accessible by car only with a special transit permission. Otherwise it is reachable by foot, by bike or by skis (in winter) or with the bus lines nr. 440 and 446 (from the 3 June to 12 October 2025). No reservation is required for the buses as tickets can be purchased also on board. The Val Fiscalina is a perfect starting point for numerous hikes which give you the unique possibility of admiring nature in all its facets and the Three Peaks (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) seem so close. The Tre Cime tour can be completed by walking past the Bödenseen lakes and the mountain huts rifugio Pian di Cengia and rifugio Zsigmondy-Comici.
If you want to discover Sesto we recommend the Giro di Sesto, a wonderful walking path suitable for families which can be split into two stages.
In winter you can undertake winter hikes, snowshoe and ski mountaineering tours. Alpine ski lovers can have fun in the Croda rossa and Monte Elmo ski areas which belong to the 3 Zinnen Dolomites skiing region. On the peak of the Croda Rossa you can take memorable pictures with a family of snowmen and observe the reindeers living there. Usually they can be seen also from the ski slopes as they approach them.
