Versciaco

Versciaco at the foot of Monte Elmo is a well-known hiking area

The village of Versciaco at 1,130 m a.s.l. is situated east of San Candido. This locality is composed of the two quarters of Versciaco di Sopra and Versciaco di Sotto and has about 330 inhabitants. The Gothic parish church was consecrated to St. Magdalene in 1479 and stands on one of the most panoramic hills of the region. Both the monument and the hill are worth a visit.

Nature lovers are spoilt for choice: the numerous hiking paths lead to the S. Silvestro chapel, to Prato Drava or up to the highest peaks. The skiing and hiking area of Monte Elmo can be accessed on foot or by cable car from the village. In winter, a 4.7-km long ski slope descends from Monte Elmo to the village. Cross-country skiers can practise their favourite sport on the numerous tracks in the surroundings.
