Hay Bath

The South Tyrolean hay bath has been known for centuries for its healing and beneficial effects

The beneficial effects of hay baths on physical and mental health were first recognised by mountain farmers. Today hay baths are offered in several hotels of the Val Pusteria.

The hay used for this purpose derives from untreated and unfertilised meadows and is mown every morning or evening to preserve the precious essential oils of the different plants. Medicinal herbs such as arnica, thyme, gentian, lady's mantle and cinquefoil fully unfold their beneficial effects in the hay bath. This traditional treatment stimulates the metabolism and cells, improves drainage and reestablishes balance within the body. The sweating triggered by the hay bath alleviates ailments like rheumatism, arthrosis, stress and anxiety. As the hay from the mountain meadows is not dusty, even people with dust allergies can undergo this treatment.

Traditionally, hay baths are taken during the summer months but thanks to special preservation and preparation procedures it is now available all year round.
