The Picco della Croce (Wilde Kreuzspitze in German) rises between the Val di Vizze near Vipiteno and Lago Selvaggio and is the highest peak of the Fundres mountains in the Zillertal Alps. Its summit cross however stands on its southeastern, three metres lower peak.
Today there are several options to conquer the 3,135 m high Picco della Croce: one path starts at the Sterzinger Hütte hut at 2,344 m a.s.l., otherwise it is accessible via the alpine village of Fane Alm and the Bressanone hut at 2,307 m a.s.l. If you are coming from south you can reach the peak via Passo di Sèngas. The Picco della Croce was first ascended in 1861 and delights visitors with a truly impressive panorama of the peaks of the Zillertal Alps and the underlying Lago Selvaggio lake.
