Valdaora di Sopra, the easternmost village of the municipality, has about 700 inhabitants
Valdaora di Sopra, the easternmost hamlet of the municipality, extends in the proximity of the artificial lake of Valdaora, a popular destination for fishermen with fishing license. This body of water is also used for the production of electricity. At the village centre at 1,080 m a.s.l. rises the 15th century St. Mary church which has obtained its current appearance only in 1900.
Other well-known destinations in the surroundings of Valdaora di Sopra are the malghe Angerer and Brunst (1,895 m a.s.l.). We recommend undertaking a walk along the circular path Salla which starts directly in the village. If you would like to discover the other hamlets of the municipality as well you can do so during a stroll along the "sentiero del comune" path.
In winter Valdaora is a true skiing paradise. The localities of Valdaora di Sopra, Valdaora di Mezzo and Valdaora di Sotto are directly connected to the valley station of the Plan de Corones skiing area thanks to a ski bus (3 rides per hour). Families can have fun on the 105 km of ski slopes of the Plan de Corones and eventually end their skiing adventure with a cool Après ski at the valley station of the cable car!
We recommend a visit to the monolith and the Roman milestone - two important historical evidences of the ancient Roman road that crossed the Val Pusteria in 201 AD.
