The high plateau of Sennes in the heart of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park is overlooked by the peaks of the Dolomites

We take the shuttle service from San Vigilio Marebbe to the Pederü restaurant where we ascend the mountain along an old military road. The path seems to be attached to the rocks but luckily it is large enough and easily walkable. Fortunately the path is still in the shadow in the first morning hours, which means that the steep ascent is not very demanding. Once at the top we follow the signpost to Malga Sennes. Soon after we walk through a wonderful mountain landscape with malghe and pine trees.
The fantastic view ranges from Monte Croda di Becco and Monte Croda Rossa to the more distant Monte Cristallo, the Furcia dal Fers (Eisengabel) and to the Cima Lavarella in the background. A beautiful wooden cross marks the last fork before Malga Sennes. We cross the old military airport which is now a pasture with grazing cows. Exactly at lunchtime we arrive at the hut where we enjoy a hearty and delicious meal surrounded by a marvellous panorama.
Before descending to the valley however, we follow the signpost to rifugio Fodara Vedla, a famous mountain restaurant which is composed of several, tiny wooden houses and a small chapel. In case of good weather the view you have from here is simply amazing. Of course you can also admire the stunning beauty of alpine flowers, smell their sweet perfumes and observe butterflies flying effortlessly in the sky.
