A hike in the mountains of Fundres: this itinerary takes us from the Malga Fane car park to the steep meadows at the passage between the Ribigenspitz and Tschiffernaun

The starting point of this hike in the Rio di Pusteria area is the car park of Malga Fane which can be accessed via a narrow, uphill path from Valles. Initially we follow path no. 17 towards Malga Fane, then we turn right towards Malga Tschiffernaun. This path is an easier alternative to path no. 15A, which is steeper. It takes us about 90 minutes to cover 500 metres of elevation gain and arrive at Malga Tschiffernaun. Initially, the landscape is characterised by forests and some small waterfalls which we leave behind us. Later near Malga Stin, the forest is replaced by extensive meadows.
At the small Malga Tschiffernaun at 2,240 m a.s.l. we stop for our lunchbreak. We ascend for another 350 metres of elevation gain to the Forcella del Monte Sasso. This pass separates the Tschiffernaun and Seefeldspitz mountains (both about 3,000 m high). From here you can access the Steinalmtal valley, a side valley of the Val di Fundres. While walking along the path on the pass we admire the stunning natural landscape. Besides the very colourful, blooming early-summer flora we can observe also some marmots and predatory birds. The view from the Forcella del Monte Sasso to the highest peaks of the Zillertal Alps (Gran Pilastro and the nearest peaks) is simply amazing. We recommend retracing your steps to return to the starting point.
