Lake Braies, the jewel of the Dolomites, is the starting point of our hike to the Malghe Colle Alti and Passo Furcia

Near the famous Lake Braies we walk past the forestry station and the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and head towards south. On the south-western lake shore we take path no. 19 to the Valle Foresta. We ascend and soon we reach Malga Foresta (Grünwaldhütte) where you could eventually stop by. After a short time we arrive at a small lodge for hunters.
From here we climb a steep forest path leading up to the malga in switchbacks. The attached mountain huts are overlooked by impressive peak. The largest hut, the Ucia Fojedöra is also a refreshment point. After a stop we continue to ascend across the verdant alpine meadows to Passo Lapedur (Lapedur-Joch) at 2,210 m a.s.l. where our trail suddenly proceeds in a steep descent along the rocky walls of the valle Langtal. The first lodge we come across in this section is a small wooden house, the Olanger Jägerhütte.
At this point we can choose between two versions to continue our hike: we either descend to Valdaora by passing Bagni Pervalle or take the path to our left to Passo Furcia. We choose the second option and head towards west through a forest. On our map this trail seemed to be flat but actually it is a very narrow, hilly mule track. Finally this path meets a larger trail which takes us down to Passo Furcia at 1,789 m of altitude. From there we take the bus back to Val Pusteria past San Vigilio.
