Learn more about public holidays in Val Pusteria
The Val Pusteria is a cross-boarder area between Italy (western part) and Austria (eastern part). Thanks to its unique geographical position, the public holidays celebrated in the different parts of the valley depend on the country they belong to. Although some public holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are celebrated both in Italy and Austria, national holidays are different.
Of course, the public holidays of Italy also apply to South Tyrol. Some of them are the Liberation Day on 25 April and the Italian Republic Day on 2 June. Typical public holidays in Austria are the Corpus Christi and the National Day on 26 October.
Be ware that most of the shops are closed on national and religious holidays. Since 2026, Italy has a new entry: the St. Francis of Assisi's Day on 4 October. The number of public holidays celebrated in Italy therefore increases to 13.
